Modus Operandi
Obsessively devoted to his mother, never dated women or left his home; Ed Gein was a grave robber at first. He would exhume recently interred bodies from their graves, specifically women. He kept many body parts in his home as trophies, making their skin into vests, masks, and seat covers and used their skulls as bowls. He killed one woman, Mary Hogan due to her close resemblance of his mother, shooting her then slitting her body open and beheading her. The other woman he killed was Bernice Worden, he decapitated her, hung the body upside down and dressed it out like deer. Later analysis discovered she was killed by a close range shot from a 22 caliber rifle. This was the only murderofficially trialed for and charged with.
He was specifically focused on women in his murders because during his childhood, he was very close to his mother and was taught to believe that all women were sinful and evil. He was also focused on women specifically withother crimes and at one point after his mother’s death, decided he wanted a sex change.. This is why he made vests from women’s torsos, wearing them to seem more womanly.experimented with human taxidermy.
